On October 12th 2012, on the occasion of the match between Norway and Switzerland, a Swiss Journalist offered Olsen… a superb pair of red wellies, with the Swiss white cross on them. Olsen accepted them with a laugh : « I hope they are my size !? if so, and if it’s raining next Friday, I’ll wear them to come to the stadium : just to... annoy the British with these red boots — No, that would not be wise ! » But even so he brought the wellies in a big white bag (see the picture). To the journalist who asked him what this big white bag contained, he answered : « for everything I need »…

Football boots of an amusing alternative kind: The National team manager Egil "Drillo" Olsen always used a special pair of green rubber boots in the 90’s. The boots became a sort of a trademark for the Norwegian team. The museum has these boots in the museum and they have also been used as a logo for the Museum.

Egil Olsen is 70 and has suffered from rheumatism for years now, so he often wears rubber boots at the football ground to protect his joints from the wet grass. He looks like a garderner or a janitor more than a football coach. Nevertheless Olsen is the most successful coach of Norway.

And then there are these strange wellington boots : from the beginning people laughed at him. TheThe players burnt his wellies after each of the team’s victories — of which there were not many. Olsen participated in the joke, but never really understood what was so funny. Above all he never totally understood today’s British. He said that he did not properly understand their culture. When he goes for a walk now in the London streets, some people recognize him. Olsen says: “People always remember one thing above everything else and ask me: “Eh, Mister Olsen, where are the wellies?” “. Now he can laugh, but not when he was fired after only nine months and when he read the headline in the newspaper : “At last the wellyman has received a kick up the ass.”
